Sea water was collected at the depth of a typical offshore outfall
Water samples were spiked with wastewater treatment plant effluent that had undergone different levels of chlorination and UV disinfection
Some samples were kept under temperature control
Degradation of pathogens in the samples was measured over time
Analyses were conducted at regular intervals over several days
Both rapid and traditional microbial monitoring techniques were used to analyze the samples
Some samples were prepared at SCCWRP and analyzed offsite
Hollow fiber filtration (HFF) apparatus used to prepare samples for rapid analysis of Enterococcus and Bacteriodes using QPCR and PMA-PCR
